Our Labour Law team has extensive experience representing both management and union clients in various labour relations matters. Starting with the initial application for union certification, we can provide assistance with respect to the process prescribed by The Saskatchewan Employment Act. Our team also has extensive knowledge in terms of defending unfair labour practice complaints before the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board.
Business clients have relied on our Labour Law team for advice and direct involvement with the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements.
OWZW regularly provides legal advice to clients in unionized workplaces regarding collective agreement application and interpretation, including assisting clients with both drafting grievances and responding to grievances as required by the collective agreement in issue.
Where grievances involving labour relations issues are referred to the arbitration process for resolution, our Labour Law team members have experience representing clients in arbitration hearings. Our lawyers also have extensive experience representing clients at the Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench and Court of Appeal when judicial review applications have been filed following an arbitration decision.
We have also provided advice and counsel to clients involved in union-management disputes where job action (strike or lockout) is initially being contemplated, and after such job action is taken.
